When lighting assemblies are in good condition, replacing the light source with a tailored solution is the fastest, most economical, and effective approach
BOUZAS —12/4/2024— Recently, in the coastal town of Bouzas, the Port Authority of Vigo has completed an LED upgrade project for existing ATP assemblies, comprised of Pescador S discharge luminaires, Avenida columns, and attached curved arms. After more than 16 years, these assemblies, constructed with engineering technical polymers immune to corrosion, were in perfect condition despite the harsh conditions of humidity, temperature, salinity, and erosion inherent to the oceanic environment. Thanks to this, it has been possible to leverage the structure of the fixtures and exclusively replace the light source with the ATP KitLED® S LED upgrade kit.
This solution has enabled the customization of optics and power to adapt to the project's specificities, thus achieving optimal lighting with excellent uniformity and energy efficiency, avoiding over-illumination, with a consumption saving compared to discharge lighting of over 70%. As is customary with ATP, this solution comes with a comprehensive 10-year warranty.
The KitLED® incorporates Laminar Heatsink®, an innovative thermal management solution patented by ATP that helps extend the lifespan of LED modules by reducing their working temperature. Additionally, the choice of a warm color temperature, with a minimal component of blues in its spectral radiance, reinforces the project's commitment to reducing light pollution and preserving the marine ecosystem.
Additionally, the intervention included the replacement of five floodlights from another company, already deteriorated and corroded by the oceanic atmosphere, with ATP's Aire® 5 Series solution, also in a warm color temperature and with symmetrical light distribution. The new floodlights feature an avant-garde design suitable for the modern support structures they have been integrated into.
This project represents not only a technological upgrade but also a commitment to long-term sustainability. The ability to upgrade the original luminaires while retaining the housing, column, and arm due to their durability, offers an economical and environmentally friendly option to adapt to current and future technologies. The renovation in Bouzas also demonstrates the profitability of investing in ATP products over time. With this technology upgrade, assemblies with over 16 years of exposure to the elements are ready to continue operating in the coming decades.
