The new equipment reduces operating costs, improves energy efficiency by 75%, and helps control light pollution
ALMERÍA —31/1/2025— Conventional luminaires often suffer accelerated deterioration in coastal environments due to corrosion caused by the saline atmosphere, leading to high maintenance costs. In response to this challenge, and meeting the stringent requirements of the Almería City Council regarding sustainability and visual comfort, ATP Lighting has carried out an ambitious coastal lighting renewal project, implementing corrosion-free and maintenance-free technology.
The intervention covers key areas such as Barriada La Fabriquilla, Barriada La Almadraba, Barriada Cabo de Gata, Costacabana on Avenida Marinera, and the Paseo Marítimo Carmen de Burgos in Almería capital. These areas, located on the seafront, faced recurring corrosion issues and high maintenance costs resulting from the use of conventional metal luminaires.
To address these challenges, ATP luminaires, made from high-performance engineering polymers, have been installed. These materials are fully corrosion-resistant, vandal-proof, and 100% safe against electrocution. This solution eliminates premature deterioration and significantly extends the service life of the installation without requiring periodic maintenance.
Installed models and environmental adaptation
Each area has been equipped with carefully selected luminaires designed to harmonize with the surroundings and meet lighting efficiency and aesthetic criteria. The installed models include Evolución P, with a modern and efficient design; Pescador S, featuring a maritime aesthetic that blends perfectly with the coastal landscape; Siglo XLA, a classic circular model ideal for historical environments; Metrópoli EP, with contemporary lines; Villa XLA, a square-shaped classic design for heritage town centers; and the Orión and Aire® 3 Series floodlights, engineered to withstand extreme conditions and provide optimal lighting performance in open areas such as beaches, ports, and promenades.
2200 K ultra-warm LED technology: commitment to night sky quality
The coastal lighting in Almería integrates ATP’s 2200 K ultra-warm LED technology, a solution developed to comply with the strict requirements of the Almería City Council and the Calar Alto Observatory regarding night sky quality, visual comfort, and environmental sustainability. The administration has shown exceptional concern for minimizing light pollution and enhancing the visual experience of its citizens, and ATP has delivered the necessary solutions for every challenge presented.
With a spectral blue light emission of less than 1.3% at wavelengths below 440 nm, this color temperature protects the night sky and preserves the natural balance of the environment. While other solutions may exhibit up to 45% higher blue light content, ATP ensures that its ultra-warm color temperatures have the lowest blue emission levels on the market, significantly reducing environmental disruption.
The ATP 2200 K LED stands out for its exceptionally low blue spectrum radiation, limiting it to only 1.28% in wavelengths below 440 nm. This feature is crucial in sensitive natural environments, as it preserves night sky darkness and minimizes disruptions to the circadian rhythms of local species.
Thanks to the careful selection of color temperature and low blue light emissions in the spectrum, this intervention has significantly reduced light pollution, preserving the nocturnal ecosystem and ensuring a more balanced and healthier urban environment. As a result, Almería now enjoys a harmonious and welcoming nighttime atmosphere, fostering a sustainable balance between urban life and the surrounding natural landscape. The implementation of this technology not only enhances visual perception and user comfort but also reinforces a commitment to responsible and environmentally friendly outdoor lighting.
Energy efficiency and sustainability
The project has been designed to ensure maximum lighting uniformity with minimal energy consumption. Power regulation and the efficient distribution of luminous flux have made it possible to avoid over-illumination, optimizing energy resources and minimizing environmental impact. As a result, the initiative has achieved a 75% overall energy savings, significantly lowering operational costs and benefiting the municipality directly.
In addition to energy savings, the corrosion resistance of ATP luminaires eliminates the need for periodic interventions, preventing the high costs associated with replacing equipment damaged by saline environments. With a comprehensive 10-year warranty, even in the most extreme conditions, ATP Iluminación provides a reliable and cost-effective lighting solution for coastal applications.
A maintenance-free coastal lighting model
The renewal of Almería’s coastal lighting demonstrates how ATP Iluminación’s technology delivers long-lasting and sustainable solutions in demanding environments. The corrosion immunity of its luminaires, combined with high energy efficiency and site-adapted designs, ensures a high-performance, maintenance-free lighting system with a prolonged service life.
With this renovation, Almería now benefits from modern, efficient coastal lighting that respects its natural environment, ensuring long-term savings, safety, and visual comfort. With a comprehensive 10-year warranty, ATP reaffirms its leadership in the public lighting industry, delivering cutting-edge solutions that combine quality, sustainability, and minimal environmental impact.
