The Navarre company celebrates half a century offering unique solutions in street lighting
PAMPLONA —7/2/2019— "Since its foundation in 1969, this company has been defined by a unique approach in the sector: identifying the main problems of outdoor lighting and solving them in an ingenious way through an intense R & D effort", explains Guillermo Redrado, COO of the company, in this year of commemoration. ATP Lighting, specialist in the design and manufacture of high-quality public lighting from technical engineering polymers, celebrates its 50th anniversary, which is a great opportunity to go over the concept of the brand and its evolution today.
Innovate, a vocation from the beginning
Throughout its 50 years of existence, innovation has been –and still is today– the main feature of the company's identity, and it is also what has allowed ATP to create a unique street lighting which offers the highest performance and integrates technologies designed and patented by the firm itself. "That is our essence: we have always been a company focused on solving the problems that we see in the products of our competitors. For us it is unthinkable that a lamppost kills a person or a dog from time to time, or that a coastal municipality spends thousands of euros on maintaining the lighting of its promenade”, says Redrado.
A history of continuous improvement
ATP Lighting decided from the beginning that it would systematically reinvest in R & D most of the benefits it obtained, and this has been done up to now. When the company arrived in the sector in 1969, it had to earn its place competing with companies that had been present for decades and, to achieve that, it was necessary to propose something different that would bring some notorious and exclusive advantages. With this idea, and after a meticulous observation of the existing public lighting's weak points, the firm developed the technical engineering polymers with which it would manufacture all its products.
Thanks to these materials, ATP solved the major traditional problems of outdoor lighting: corrosion, vandalism and electrocution. Those advantages made the brand achieve a strong position in the lighting by the sea market, (coastal municipalities, seafront promenades, ports, beaches), as well as in parks, gardens, and hotels, areas where immunity to corrosion and absence of electrical risk are essential.
The company continued to allocate funds to technology, infrastructure and talent, to progressively improve its product, differentiate itself in innovation and concentrate on three pillars: quality, service and warranty. Sustaining this way of proceeding required a strong investment every year, but the good results that were reaped proved the relevance of this strategy.
"This practice, the will to constantly improve and offer solid solutions where others failed, became little by little a corporate culture. A culture that accompanies us today and thanks to which we have state-of-the-art facilities, powerful technical, logistical and human resources, and a product with unique characteristics in the sector”. The technological evolution mentioned by Redrado is evident in the selection of photographs that accompany this article.
Solutions in the LED era
ATP's eagerness to identify problems and offer solutions extended, a little more than a decade ago, to the new technology that broke into the market to stay: the LED. Through the creation and implementation of two technical advances, the Laminar Heatsink® –internationally patented– and the Comfort Diffuser®, the firm has solved the basic disadvantages that this light source has shown in recent years: overheating of the modules and glare.
On the other hand, thanks to the combination of its polymeric materials and the design of a special internal architecture for its luminaires, ATP has made its street lights immune to overvoltages, the third major weakness of the LED. "These developments, together with the launch of cutting-edge products such as our award-winning Aire® luminaire –German Design Award 2018, Design Plus 2018 and German Design Award 2019– or our universal LED replacement kit, KitLED®, allow us to look to the future with great confidence", concludes the COO.
