The company increases its strategic focus on prevention efforts, and optimizes its occupational risk control processes
PAMPLONA —21/1/2020— ATP Lighting has recently obtained the ISO 45001:2018 "Occupational Health and Safety Management System" certification after requesting that AENOR carry out an external audit of its operations. This audit was done in order to guarantee the prevention of occupational risks, avoid injuries of any kind and protect the health of the firm's employees. As well as this new certification, the company has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 "Quality Management System" and ISO 14001:2015 "Environmental Management System" in recent years, placing ATP among the companies most committed to excellence in terms of quality, safety and environmental protection.
According to the ILO (International Labour Organization), a person dies every fifteen seconds due to work-related accidents or illnesses. Given that the health of its employees has been a constant concern for ATP Iluminación since the company's inception, ATP made being awarded AENOR's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) certification a strategic objective in 2019, with an aim to optimize and systematize prevention processes more rigorously within the different areas of the company.
It is crucial that a leading, transnational firm like ATP, which is characterized by its desire for continuous improvement and whose OSH philosophy and practices are well-established, possesses the most advanced health risk management measures. Javier Álvarez, head of the Quality, Environment and JSA Department at ATP, explains that an OSH management system such as ISO 45001 favors the enterprise's productive efficiency and encourages employees to perceive the company more positively, as it reduces the number of accidents and illnesses, decreases the number of emergencies and improves the well-being of workers: "With this certification, we have strengthened our commitment to making health and safety efforts one of the strategic focuses of our organization", he explained.
Measures implemented by the company in an attempt to adjust its OSH management system to the ISO 45001 standard include the adaptation of equipment and workplaces, more specifically, the installation of additional protective gear, risk signs and emergency stop systems on machines; the provision of comprehensive health and safety training, including emergency plans with details on evacuation drills, and information related to dangerous goods handling and fire management; and the stepping up of internal inspections to ensure the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and that first-aid kits, evacuation routes and fire control measures are kept.
