The transition from cool lighting with high blue content to a 2200 K ultra-warm LED system optimizes visual comfort, preserves the night sky, and enhances the municipality's sustainability
BIESCAS, VALLE DE TENA —17/1/2025— Located in the heart of Tena Valley, Biescas is a town that blends tradition, culture, and nature. Its privileged location makes it a strategic point for mountain tourism and a benchmark for environmental conservation. Aware of the impact of lighting on the environment, the municipality has opted for an efficient and well-calibrated lighting system that minimizes light pollution and drastically reduces energy consumption.
Lighting optimization: from 4000 K to 2200 K
The previous public lighting in Biescas consisted of 4000 K luminaires with a high percentage of blue in their spectrum. This lighting not only caused glare and disrupted circadian rhythms but also contributed to light dispersion in the atmosphere and ground reflection, increasing light pollution.
With the renovation, the municipality has opted for ATP Lighting's 2200 K LED technology, characterized by:
- Less than 1.28% blue emission at wavelengths below 440 nm.
- Drastic reduction in light dispersion.
- Greater visual comfort and better integration with the natural surroundings.
A range of solutions for different applications
To meet the diverse lighting needs of the municipality, various luminaire models have been installed, including:
- Siglo XLA and Villa XLA, with a classic aesthetic, ideal for integrating into historical areas.
- Paseo A, a functional model with a modern design for urban spaces.
- Enur L, used for high-mount road lighting, ensuring safety and efficiency on main roads.
- Custom blue polymeric sets, installed on one of the bridges to match the safety railings. Thanks to their corrosion resistance, these Enur L sets are especially suitable for withstanding snowfall and the use of de-icing salts.
- Aire® 7 Series floodlights, mounted on poles to illuminate various common spaces.
Additionally, all luminaires are equipped with Comfort Diffuser®, an innovation that reduces glare and provides uniform and pleasant lighting, improving nighttime visibility for both pedestrians and drivers.
Architectural lighting for San Salvador church
The lighting renovation also included architectural lighting for San Salvador church, highlighting its iconic circular stained-glass window. For this, Aire® 5 Series floodlights with a 2200 K color temperature were installed, enhancing the beauty of the temple in a soft and elegant way without impacting the night sky.
Extreme resilience for a harsh climate
Like the rest of Tena Valley, Biescas faces a mountain climate characterized by frequent storms, heavy precipitation, frost, and snow. These conditions can generate power surges in the electrical grid, significantly affecting the durability of conventional LED luminaires. However, ATP luminaires offer comprehensive protection against these challenges thanks to:
- Class II+ insulation with no need for grounding, preventing power surges caused by atmospheric discharges.
- Polymeric insulating materials, immune to electrostatic discharges (ESD) that accumulate in metal housings.
- IP66+ hermetic sealing, protecting against water and dust ingress.
- Total corrosion resistance, ensuring exceptional durability even in high-humidity conditions and with exposure to de-icing salts.
Less maintenance, greater savings
The new lighting system in Biescas not only improves lighting efficiency but also drastically reduces maintenance costs. With ATP Lighting’s solution, the municipality benefits from:
- A comprehensive 10-year warranty, even under extreme weather conditions.
- Products that require no constant inspections, eliminating concerns about lighting deterioration.
- Optimized energy efficiency, achieving significant savings in electricity consumption.
- A model of sustainability for the future
The lighting renovation in Biescas is a significant step forward in protecting the night sky and optimizing municipal resources. With responsible and sustainable lighting, the municipality reinforces its commitment to the quality of life of its residents and the preservation of its natural surroundings, positioning itself as a leader in efficient lighting within Tena Valley.
This project is part of the series of success stories that ATP Lighting is developing in the region, highlighting the importance of well-calibrated, resistant, and sustainable public lighting.
