A restored natural space restored with sustainable 2200 K LED technology that protects the night sky
QUERÉTARO, MEXICO —21/3/2025— In Querétaro, Mexico, a previously abandoned protected natural area has been reborn as the city's largest interurban park. The rehabilitation of Parque La Queretana has restored ecosystems, attracted wildlife that had migrated, and provided citizens with a safe and sustainable space.
As part of this transformation, the Municipality of Querétaro has selected Libra A luminaires with Comfort Diffuser® from ATP Lighting in a 2200 K ultra-warm color temperature, designed to deliver efficient and safe lighting while minimizing light pollution. Additionally, Aire® 5 Series luminaires, also in 2200 K, were installed in key locations to ensure asymmetric lighting efficiency in roadways and high-traffic areas.
The lighting plan for this project follows a comprehensive approach, ensuring an optimal distribution of light that protects the night sky and minimizes the impact on biodiversity.
Protecting the ecosystem and the night sky
The lighting design of the park was developed under strict sustainability criteria, with a specific focus on biodiversity conservation. The 2200 K ultra-warm lighting reduces blue light emissions to levels below 1.28% at wavelengths under 440 nm, minimizing its impact on local fauna and maintaining environmental harmony.
To prevent glare and ensure a comfortable visual experience, the luminaires were precisely calibrated, adjusting light levels to the park’s real needs without generating over-illumination. Thanks to Comfort Diffuser®, the lighting achieves a uniform distribution that improves nighttime perception, enhances visual comfort, and reinforces visitor safety.
Safety, quality, and durability for a demanding environment
A large-scale interurban park like La Queretana requires lighting solutions that are not only efficient but also highly resistant to harsh environmental conditions and heavy use. For this reason, Libra A luminaires from ATP Lighting offer the highest mechanical resistance in the industry, with an IK10+ rating, making them vandalism-proof and capable of withstanding impacts over 20 joules, more than twice the requirement for an IK10 certification.
In addition to their resistance to impact and vandalism, the luminaires are designed to ensure total protection against dust and water ingress, thanks to their IP66+ protection. This guarantees optimal performance even in heavy rain and humid environments.
Another critical factor in this environment is corrosion resistance, especially in areas with high humidity and exposure to aggressive atmospheric agents. The exclusive polymeric technical materials used in ATP Lighting luminaires prevent degradation and oxidation, extending their lifespan and eliminating the need for maintenance.
Additionally, ATP Iluminación luminaires are immune to overvoltages, including those caused by electrostatic discharges (ESD), a critical factor in LED lighting durability. Their Class II architecture without grounding and polymeric insulating materials eliminate the need for surge protectors, preventing voltage spikes from lightning or accumulated electrostatic charge from damaging internal electronics. This solution ensures reliable performance even in storm-prone environments.
To support this robust engineering and long-term performance, all luminaires installed in La Queretana come with a comprehensive 10-year warranty, even under extreme weather conditions. This industry-leading guarantee reflects ATP Lighting's confidence in the quality and durability of its solutions, ensuring reliable lighting with no premature failures or unexpected maintenance costs.
Strategic lighting for safety and efficiency
Beyond environmental conservation, this project represents a major improvement in public safety. The park’s lighting was designed to provide the necessary visibility at night, allowing for recreational activities and creating a safe public space.
Prior photometric studies enabled the development of an optimized lighting scheme, ensuring maximum energy efficiency without compromising functionality. Each luminaire has been strategically positioned to direct light only where needed, avoiding energy waste and minimizing light dispersion in the surroundings.
In addition to reducing light pollution, the 2200 K ultra-warm lighting guarantees high visibility and safety due to its exceptional uniformity and high Color Rendering Index (CRI). Despite its warm tone, ATP Iluminación’s 2200 K LED technology provides a CRI above 70, ensuring natural color perceptionand enhancing visibility. This balance between visual comfort and color accuracy strengthens public safety by allowing pedestrians to clearly distinguish shapes, obstacles, and essential details in the environment.
Images of the park clearly illustrate the contrast between responsible lighting and the light pollution caused by conventional cold-light sources in the city. While Parque La Queretana maintains a warm and controlled glow, the background reveals the typical blue light dome associated with standard urban lighting in Mexico. This contrast underscores the importance of adopting responsible lighting technologies for urban sustainability.
A benchmark for sustainable lighting in Mexico
With this project, Querétaro moves towards the modernization of urban lighting based on efficiency and sustainability. Parque La Queretana stands as a benchmark for responsible lighting in Mexico, demonstrating that technology and environmental conservation can go hand in hand to improve urban quality of life.
ATP Lighting remains committed to transforming public spaces with solutions designed to protect the night sky, enhance safety, and optimize energy efficiency, integrating lighting harmoniously into the environment.
