ATP Lighting sponsors Club Deportivo Academy Telde: chess, strategic thinking, and training future generations

A collaboration fostering essential skills to build advanced societies through education and sport

TELDE, GRAN CANARIA —28/3/2025— ATP Lighting has formalized its sponsorship of Club Deportivo Academy Telde, an initiative born in the school environment with the goal of bringing chess closer to children and youth in the municipality of Telde. In a short period, the club has become a local reference for promoting educational chess, with increasing participation in school and island competitions.

Academy Telde was founded in 2024 after an extracurricular activity organized at CEIP La Garita, located on the coast of Telde (Gran Canaria). Currently, it gathers players of all ages, primarily from local schools such as CEIP Príncipe de Asturias, CEIP Doctor Gregorio Chil y Naranjo, CEIP Esteban Navarro, and CEIP Lucía Jiménez Oliva.

From its headquarters on Calle Harimaguada, in the La Montañeta neighborhood, the club promotes an educational approach focused on chess as a pedagogical discipline, prioritizing grassroots development and participation in regional competitions. In just over a year, it has achieved significant recognition in Gran Canaria’s school tournaments, both individually and in team categories.

A formative discipline aligned with the values of ATP Lighting

ATP Lighting's sponsorship is rooted in the strong belief that chess, beyond its competitive dimension, transmits essential values for the development of mature and advanced societies: discipline, critical thinking, honesty, strategy, independence, determination, perseverance, and ethical judgment.

"Chess not only teaches decision-making under pressure but also encourages deep thinking, foresight, and principled actions," says Guillermo Redrado, vice president of ATP Lighting. "We believe these qualities are essential not just for forming good players, but also for preparing citizens to tackle today’s challenges. Therefore, supporting initiatives like this is an effective way to contribute to social and educational development."

This commitment aligns with the philosophy of ATP Lighting, a company that since its inception has promoted sustainability, technological innovation, and designing solutions that respect both people and the environment. For ATP, building smarter cities goes beyond infrastructure—it involves nurturing those who live in them.

A growing talent pool

Over the past two years, Academy Telde has achieved remarkable results in official tournaments, securing individual titles across all youth categories, from Under-8 to Under-16, and team podiums in the Gran Canaria Island League. It has also been among the clubs with the largest representation in school and regional finals, actively participating in competitions such as the Canary Islands Youth and Cadet Championship and the Island Women's Championship.

Recent achievements include podium finishes by Paula Díaz, Alexandra Domínguez, Sofía Trujillo, Pascal Moreno, and Rubén Sosa, as well as team runner-up positions in the island league in the Under-8/10 and Under-12/16 categories.

An alliance with educational and social impact

The collaboration between ATP Lighting and Academy Telde aims to strengthen this comprehensive training model, promoting chess as an educational tool, fostering social cohesion, and encouraging personal development. In an increasingly stimulus-filled and distracting environment, chess provides a unique way to cultivate concentration, analysis, patience, and responsible decision-making.

With this alliance, ATP Lighting reaffirms its commitment to the community and to educating future generations, contributing to the consolidation of projects that blend educational excellence, ethical values, and a forward-looking vision.
