CANGAS DE MORRAZO —16/3/2023—The City Council of Cangas (Galicia, Spain) has recently completed its comprehensive exterior lighting renovation project in the municipality of Cangas de Morrazo (which includes the parishes of Aldán, Cangas, Coiro, Darbo, and Hío) with ATP Lighting's polymeric LED 3000 K luminaires.
The project covered very different scenarios, from seaside promenades to parks, streets, and urban centers, so it was necessary to implement a mixed solution with diverse ATP models, both modern and classic, including Alfa, Enur Micro, Metrópoli, and the ornamental Villa. The following video of the project, filmed from a bird's-eye view with drones, shows the difference in terms of lighting levels, uniformity, and chromatic reproduction of the new lighting compared to the previous discharge scheme:
This municipality already had ATP sets, so in many cases, the columns have been preserved and the previous discharge models have been replaced with ATP's new LED versions with warm color temperature and Comfort Diffuser® to mitigate glare. The ATP polymeric columns, immune to corrosion, had been installed for nearly 20 years, often by the sea, but their perfect condition allowed them to be kept for this project.
The new luminaires have a color temperature of 3000 K, which combines a high color rendering index (above 70) with a very moderate blue spectral component. Likewise, the project has been tailor-made with the right lighting levels to guarantee safety, and with customized optics that direct light exclusively where it is needed to minimize upper light output ratio (ULOR) and energy consumption.
In summary, the new lighting has resulted in the following improvements compared to the previous discharge installation:
- Substantial reduction in energy consumption.
- Decreased light pollution.
- Glare control (thanks to the Comfort Diffuser®).
- Increased uniformity.
- Increased color rendering index.
- Enhanced safety.
- Increased overall lighting quality.
Finally, the immunity to corrosion of ATP product has been decisive in this project: the firm's luminaires are made with engineering technical polymers and have a comprehensive 10-year warranty even in extreme conditions of humidity, temperature, and salinity. This feature contributes to savings in maintenance costs, especially when it comes to lighting by the sea, which has been a decisive advantage compared to other options.
