Previously, the region was illuminated by glass VSAP spherical fixtures with a high flux towards the upper hemisphere
COLLDEJOU — 3/5/2024— In an effort to preserve biodiversity and promote energy efficiency, the picturesque town of Colldejou, located in the province of Tarragona and at the foothills of the Sierra de Llaberia, has undertaken a renovation of its outdoor lighting system by adopting state-of-the-art LED technology provided by ATP Lighting. Situated just 7 kilometers from the protected area of the Montsant Natural Park, this municipality is committed to maintaining a respectful and appealing nighttime environment.
Previously, Colldejou was illuminated by glass VSAP spherical lanterns powered by 70-watt high-pressure sodium vapor lamps, which emitted disproportionate and unnecessary light flux towards the night sky, contributing to intense light pollution. Now, thanks to the implementation of 50 ATP Lighting LED luminaires with an ultrawarm 2200 K color temperature and a power of 21 W, the town has significantly reduced its emissions towards the sky.
ATP's ultrawarm 2200 K color temperature emits a spectral radiant flux of blues of only 1.28% (wavelengths below 440 nm), contributing to the preservation of the darkness of the night sky in a sensitive area near the protected zone of the Montsant Natural Park. It's important to note that the same warm color temperature can have differences in the percentage of blue spectral component of up to 45% depending on the manufacturer. ATP ensures that its ultrawarm color temperatures, such as 2200 K, have the lowest blue indices on the market. Additionally, ATP's 2200 K achieves faithful and natural color reproduction, with a color rendering index greater than 70.
Maximum efficiency, minimum light pollution
Furthermore, the lighting project was designed appropriately to avoid over-illumination and energy waste, ensuring that only necessary areas are illuminated with the precise power to comply with established standards. This initiative has led to over 70% energy savings, ensuring more efficient resource management and reduced environmental impact.
In addition to the energy aspect, the new lighting installation in Colldejou has significantly improved the town's aesthetics. The classic-style LED luminaires Villa XLA blend seamlessly with the traditional ambiance of the locality, harmonizing its appearance and enhancing its natural charm.
Rational and well-sized lighting, with customized optics, has achieved high light uniformity, ensuring optimal visibility even with reduced power levels. This not only enhances the safety and comfort of residents and visitors but also contributes to preserving the beauty of the night sky and the biodiversity of the region.
From an economic and environmental perspective, the lighting project in Colldejou represents a model for energy management and the promotion of sustainable development. The combination of advanced LED technology, community commitment, and respect for the natural environment demonstrates that it's possible to illuminate efficiently and responsibly.
