High-efficiency LED sports lighting to improve visibility and safety with maximum energy efficiency
HEREDIA, COSTA RICA —22/7/2024— The municipality of Heredia, Costa Rica, has recently completed a lighting modernization project to revitalize the multi-purpose court in Los Angeles Park, transforming it into a meeting space for youth and families.
History of the renovation of Los Angeles Park
Los Angeles Park was restored in 2016 with an investment of ₡458,377,684, funded by municipal funds. The renovation included the creation of children's play areas, mini gyms, a picnic area, an amphitheater, and the renewed multi-purpose court.
The project also prioritized green areas and spaces for recreational and cultural activities, ensuring a safe environment for all ages. During this first phase, 250 W Orión discharge floodlights by ATP Lighting were installed, providing a resistant and durable solution.
ATP Lighting's contribution to the transition to LED
The positive experience with the Orión floodlights, both in terms of lighting and weather resistance without maintenance, led the municipality to trust ATP again to carry out the transition to high-efficiency LED lighting, aiming to maximize energy savings.
The project was resolved with eight 150 W Aire® 7 Series floodlights, maintaining the existing four anti-electrocution columns by ATP and the anchoring arms, which were in perfect condition. This new installation provides an average illuminance of 250 lux with a uniformity greater than 0.6, creating a safe and comfortable environment for sports like basketball and five-a-side football.
Durability and resistance in adverse conditions
The climate of Heredia, characterized by high humidity and frequent rain, presents significant challenges for outdoor lighting. ATP lighting, made with technical engineering polymers, are designed to withstand these adverse conditions and ensure long life and uninterrupted operation. The new lighting comes with a comprehensive 10-year warranty, even in extreme humidity, temperature, and salinity conditions.
Guaranteed electrical safety
A key aspect of this project is the Class II+ anti-electrocution columns, which completely protect against electrical risk. This is crucial in a park with children's play areas, ensuring the safety of kids and pets. The S7 polymer material coating the columns is fully insulating, with a dielectric strength greater than 22,000 volts, making these light points a 100% safe option.
Positive impact on the community
The renovation of Los Angeles Park has had a significant impact on the quality of life of Heredia residents. The new lighting not only improves safety and energy efficiency but also enhances the park's aesthetics, promoting its use during nighttime hours and contributing to social cohesion. The community has enthusiastically received the improvements, enjoying a renewed and accessible space for various activities.
A continuous commitment to sustainability
ATP Lighting continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and sustainability in each of its projects. The implementation of advanced LED technology reduces energy consumption and also minimizes environmental impact, contributing to the well-being of communities.
In the words of Guillermo Redrado, vice president of ATP Lighting: "The successful renovation of Los Angeles Park in Heredia reflects our firm commitment to responsible modernization and environmental improvement. This project is an example of ATP innovative and sustainable approach, offering durable and high-quality solutions that respond to the specific needs of each environment."
