The new scheme achieves energy savings of over 70% and cover multiple applications, including environmental lighting with LED PC Amber.
NERJA —5/4/2024— The coastal town of Nerja (Costa del Sol, Málaga), famous for its crystal-clear beaches, has recently renovated its entire exterior lighting in a comprehensive project aimed at improving illumination, reducing consumption, addressing recurrent corrosion issues, and mitigating light pollution. The initiative has been carried out with nearly 2000 ATP Iluminación LED luminaires, installed to replace the previous discharge fixtures (HM and VSAP) and dedicated to various applications, including classic, ornamental, ambient, and road lighting.
In total, ATP has provided 937 Siglo XLA luminaires, 861 Enur L luminaires, 87 Cónica TLA luminaires, and 36 Aire® floodlights. Most of the lighting has been supplied with warm color temperature, which not only creates a cozy and pleasant atmosphere but also minimizes the blue component in the spectral radiance, thus reducing light pollution and protecting sensitive marine ecosystems. Special mention goes to the Aire® floodlights with PC Amber ultra-warm color temperature installed on El Playazo beach, specifically designed to care for local biodiversity.
It is important to note that the same warm color temperature can have differences in the percentage of blue spectral component of up to 45% depending on the manufacturer. ATP ensures that its warm color temperatures have the lowest blue indices in the market.
The new lighting has been customized with optics and power levels specifically adapted for the project, ensuring optimized consumption that has allowed achieving over 70% energy savings, with illumination meeting the most demanding standards of uniformity and efficiency.
A touristic municipality with emblematic areas
Among the most prominent areas of this project are the iconic Balcón de Europa and the streets of the urban center, such as Pintada Street, which are pedestrian areas and reference tourist spots. As many of these areas are exposed to wind, salt spray, and sand projection typical of the marine environment, it was essential to install durable and reliable lighting that could withstand long-term corrosion without maintenance needs.
It is also worth noting the Chíllar River bank, where Cónica TLA luminaires have been installed to illuminate the pedestrian area. This river is well known for the hiking routes that take place along its course during the summer months, attracting numerous Spanish and international tourists.
Regarding street lighting, the most important actions have been carried out on the main roads leading to Nerja and on streets within the municipality such as Alcalde Antonio Villasclaras Avenue or Antonio Ferrandis Chanquete Street, all with Enur L luminaires.
An outdoor lighting with unique features
All luminaires installed at low height, such as Siglo XLA and Cónica TLA, have been supplied with ATP's exclusive Comfort Diffuser®, which provides a comfortable and safe visual experience for the inhabitants and visitors of Nerja, softening the light and mitigating LED glare.
To meet the requirements of this coastal project, ATP has offered luminaires with high technological performance, manufactured in engineering technical polymers and specially designed to withstand degradation due to exposure to aggressive environments, such as the marine environment, without maintenance needs. The new lighting comes with a comprehensive 10-year warranty, even under extreme conditions of humidity, temperature, and salinity.
This initiative has not only focused on lighting renewal but has also prioritized energy efficiency, durability, and environmental respect. ATP's Vice President, Guillermo Redrado, highlighted the contribution of this project to Nerja: "This renovation contributes to the sustainable development of the municipality, providing substantial savings in energy consumption and maintenance, and reinforcing its aesthetics and attractiveness as a tourist destination. We are convinced that the switch to LED will have a positive impact on the quality of life of its inhabitants and visitors".
