An integrated renovation project has transformed the old, unused football field into a complete 5400 m² recreational complex
SANTA ANA, COSTA RICA —28/6/2024— The residents of Piedades de Santa Ana now have a renovated recreational and sports park thanks to an ambitious public space improvement initiative. This project has transformed an old, unused football field into a complete 5400 m² sports and recreational complex, equipped with modern facilities including multi-purpose courts, a synthetic walking track, a synthetic turf field, a playground, a gym, rest areas, and spaces for cultural and leisure activities.
The Piedades Recreational and Sports Park is the result of a ₡571 million investment, funded with municipal resources and support from the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Office of the U.S. Embassy.
ATP Lighting’s contribution to the project
To ensure optimal lighting and maximum night-time visibility in the sports facilities, ATP provided its high-performance LED lighting technology. Eight Aire® 7 Series floodlights of 150 W were installed in the multi-purpose court, providing an average illuminance of 250 lux with uniformity greater than 0.5. In the artificial turf soccer field, eight Aire® 7 Series floodlights of 200 W were used, achieving an average illuminance of 200 lux with uniformity above 0.6. These illumination levels ensure a safe and comfortable environment for park users, both in recreational activities and sports competitions.
The rest of the park’s common areas are lit with various modern ATP models, such as Metrópoli ELC, Globo S, and Venus TLA, all including Comfort Diffuser® to mitigate glare at lower heights. All light fixtures are 100% ATP Iluminación sets, which means they have been installed with brand columns made from technical engineering polymers that are anti-electrocution and corrosion-immune, with a metal core (Synergic Tube®).
Durability and resistance in adverse conditions
Costa Rica’s climate presents significant challenges for outdoor lighting due to its high humidity, heavy rains, and frequent thunderstorms. ATP luminaires are specially designed to withstand these adverse conditions. Made from insulating technical polymers, the luminaires are not only immune to corrosion but also to electrostatic discharges (ESD) and surges caused by atmospheric discharges, thus guaranteeing a long service life and uninterrupted operation.
Guaranteed electrical safety
A key aspect of this project is the Class II+ anti-electrocution columns, which completely isolate from electrical risk. This is crucial in a park with children’s play areas, where children and pets will be in contact with the lighting poles, thus ensuring their safety. The S7 polymer material covering the ATP columns is fully insulating, with a dielectric strength exceeding 22,000 volts. This makes these light points a 100% safe option.
Positive impact on the community
The renovation of the Piedades Recreational and Sports Park has significantly improved the quality of life for Santa Ana residents. In addition to enhancing safety and energy efficiency, the new lighting has improved the park’s aesthetics, encouraging its use during night-time hours and contributing to social cohesion. The mayor's office expressed satisfaction with the project, highlighting the importance of joint work between community organizations and local government to make this transformation a reality.
A continuous commitment to sustainability
ATP Lighting continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and sustainability in all its projects. The implementation of advanced LED technology not only reduces energy consumption but also minimizes environmental impact, contributing to the well-being of communities.
In the words of Guillermo Redrado, vice president of ATP Lighting: "The successful renovation of the park in Piedades de Santa Ana reflects our firm commitment to responsible modernization and environmental improvement. This project is a testament to how close collaboration between manufacturer and municipalities can address environmental challenges and improve people's quality of life."
The lighting project in Piedades de Santa Ana is a clear example of ATP’s innovative and sustainable approach, offering durable, high-quality solutions that meet the specific needs of each environment.
