The project applies efficient, biodiversity-friendly lighting solutions based on ultra-warm color temperature LED technology
NAVARRA —29/11/2024— The municipality of Lerate, located in Navarra and home to the well-known Alloz Reservoir, has implemented an innovative public lighting project aimed at protecting its natural surroundings and promoting activities such as astrotourism. With ATP Lighting luminaires equipped with PC Amber LED technology, the municipality has successfully balanced improved lighting efficiency with the preservation of biodiversity and the night sky, key elements of this unique site in the region.
A project aligned with environmental conservation and community safety
The Alloz Reservoir and its natural surroundings, with their rich biodiversity and appeal for sustainable tourism, provided the perfect setting for implementing this advanced lighting solution. The project had a dual objective: to enhance safety and visual comfort for residents through efficient public lighting, while minimizing light pollution to preserve nocturnal wildlife and the starry sky, which is essential for astrotourism in the area.
The success of this project lies in the use of ATP Lighting’s PC Amber LED technology. These luminaires emit a spectral radiant flux with only 0.48% blue light (wavelengths below 440 nm), minimizing disruption to the life cycles of nocturnal species and enhancing the quality of the night sky.
It is important to note that, despite sharing the same warm color temperature, the blue spectral component can vary by up to 45% between different manufacturers. ATP guarantees that its ultra-warm luminaires, such as the PC Amber, have the lowest blue light indices on the market, contributing to the preservation of the night sky and promoting both local biodiversity and the quality of life of residents.
Aritzaleku campsite, located next to the reservoir, is one of the spaces benefiting from this lighting project. Known for its nautical activities, cycling, and hiking, the area also encourages direct contact with nature, including astrotourism. The new sustainable lighting enhances the appeal of these nighttime experiences by protecting the quality of the starry sky, a resource increasingly valued by visitors.
Technical and environmental benefits of ATP’s PC Amber luminaires
Night sky protection: Low blue light emission reduces light scattering in the sky, improving conditions for astronomical observation, an increasingly popular attraction in the area.
Biodiversity preservation: By limiting light interference, particularly the blue component, natural habitats of local wildlife are favored, contributing to the conservation of species sensitive to artificial light.
Visual comfort and safety: The luminaires feature the Comfort Diffuser® system, which reduces glare and ensures uniform, efficient lighting optimized for each area of the municipality.
Lerate, an example of balance between development and sustainability
Thanks to the implementation of Villa XLA polymer luminaires with customized optics, Lerate has become a benchmark in integrating advanced technology while respecting the environment. This project not only improves the daily life of its residents but also boosts nature tourism and the region's economic activity.
The success of this project reinforces ATP Lighting’s commitment to designing solutions that combine efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. Lerate demonstrates that it is possible to move toward environmentally responsible development while preserving the natural and cultural richness that makes this region a unique destination.
