Transitioning to high-energy efficiency ATP LED luminaires achieves a 70% savings and ensures uniformity and safety in a challenging marine environment
GALICIA —5/1/2024— ATP Lighting continues to implement corrosion-resistant LED lighting projects in coastal areas. On this occasion, the Navarrese company has been entrusted with the renewal of public lighting in parishes belonging to the Municipality of Bergondo (Galicia). This initiative has been funded by IDAE as part of the transition to a low-carbon economy, under the Operational Program of the European Regional Development Fund for sustainable growth.
The transition to LED in this coastal municipality has been supported by meticulous lighting design to ensure uniformity and safety without incurring over-illumination, contributing to the reduction of light pollution. The new installation, composed of custom luminaires based on the results of the lighting study, has achieved an energy saving of over 70% compared to the previous discharge technology.
The project was carried out with ATP classic-shape Villa XLA polymeric luminaires, equipped with Comfort Diffuser® to mitigate glare. These Villa luminaires have been supplied with a warm and eye-friendly color temperature (3000 K), with a spectral radiant flux below 440 nm (blues) less than 3.2% to aid in light pollution control. This color temperature also ensures natural color reproduction, with a color rendering index above 70.
Furthermore, the corrosion resistance provided by ATP polymeric materials and the IP66+ integral tightness (extended to the entire enclosure, not just the optical assembly, as is usual in the sector) have been decisive factors in this coastal project, where luminaires are exposed to a highly aggressive saline and humid environment with conventional lighting. These features, combined with exceptional vandalism resistance (IK10+), allow ATP to offer a comprehensive 10-year warranty under the most demanding conditions.
In environmental terms, it is essential to highlight that the energy efficiency of this installation not only translates into significant savings but also contributes to environmental preservation. Light pollution control, achieved through careful lighting designs and the selection of technologies that minimize environmental impact, ensures the sustainability of the project.
Regarding this lighting renewal, Guillermo Redrado, vice president of ATP, has explained that the company is committed to initiatives that aim not only to improve the quality of life in communities but also to safeguard biodiversity and promote environmentally friendly practices worldwide.
