The city advances its environmental commitment with renovations in Pignatelli and Parque del Agua, employing advanced technology to reduce light pollution and preserve the night sky
The city of Zaragoza has made a significant step forward in its environmental sustainability strategy by renewing its outdoor lighting, setting itself apart as a model of demanding criteria application in environmentally respectful public lighting. This project was executed using ATP luminaires with ultra-warm color temperatures, integrating solutions that combine aesthetics, efficiency, and low environmental impact.
Renovation in Pignatelli: warm lighting for better quality of life
In the Pignatelli district, the entire lighting system was replaced with ATP’s 2200 K LED luminaires. The lighting levels, adjusted from 150 to 35 lux in compliance with regulations, now meet legal requirements and have improved uniformity, reaching values of 0.6 to 0.9 across different areas. Local residents have expressed their satisfaction with the new lighting, highlighting its warmth, comfort, and aesthetic appeal.
The ATP luminaires installed in Pignatelli also feature the patented Comfort Diffuser®, a technology that significantly reduces glare and ensures uniform and homogeneous lighting. This system enhances nighttime visibility, increasing safety and visual comfort for both pedestrians and drivers.
Moreover, light pollution in the area has been notably reduced. The facades of buildings, previously affected by upward lighting output ratio (ULOR) and light reflection, now remain in darkness, which also preserves the quality of the night sky.
Parque del Agua: a pioneer in 1800 K lighting
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Zaragoza implemented a pilot project in Parque del Agua, utilizing ATP’s innovative 1800 K LED technology. This system, emitting less than 0.31% spectral radiant flux in the blue spectrum, has proven to be an ideal solution for sensitive natural environments. The experience was so positive that the City Council decided to extend this color temperature across the entire park, setting a precedent for environmentally conscious lighting design.
Parque del Agua has become a benchmark in the application of warm lighting, achieving a balance between visual warmth, energy efficiency, and reduced light pollution. This establishes the space as a model for future interventions in urban green areas.
Commitment to quality and the environment
The ATP luminaires used in these projects stand out for their ability to combine environmentally respectful design with advanced functionality. Ultra-warm color temperatures, such as 2200 K (1.28% blue light emission) and 1800 K (0.31%), comply with international standards like the Starlight certification, promoting astrotourism and the conservation of natural rhythms for local wildlife.
Additionally, ATP luminaires offer unique technical advantages that make them especially suitable for Zaragoza’s demanding climate. These features include:
Corrosion resistance: Advanced polymeric materials ensure durability against exposure to aggressive atmospheric agents such as salt and humidity.
Exceptional durability: Vandal-proof IK10+ protection, immunity to overvoltages and electrostatic discharges (ESD), and IP66+ classification for the entire housing, including the diffuser.
Comfort Diffuser®: Enhances visual experience by reducing glare and providing uniform lighting.
Comprehensive 10-year warranty: Full coverage at no additional cost from the first unit, ensuring reliable long-term performance.
Zaragoza: a model of sustainable leadership
With this project, the Zaragoza City Council has demonstrated a strategic vision focused on sustainability and the well-being of its citizens. The adoption of lighting solutions that combine energy efficiency with environmental respect significantly enhances the city's quality of life while reinforcing its commitment to the highest standards in urban design and lighting.
Through initiatives such as Pignatelli and Parque del Agua, Zaragoza establishes itself as a benchmark in lighting innovation, proving that urban development can harmoniously integrate with environmental care.
